Etruscans Series

mixed media, 2018 - 2020

The Etruscans are among the peoples of whom we know very little, their traces have been destroyed by the Romans. We imagine what their lives were like from what their graves can deliver to us.

« The Greek woman, the Roman woman lived in the shade of the house: the Etruscan woman "went out a lot". (…)
« Such participation by Etruscan women in all manifestations of public and private life could seem indiscreet, aroused the suspicions of neighboring peoples, fueled the hostile propaganda of their enemies. »

Jacques Heurgon, 1989
« Our alphabet keeps track of an Etruscan phase with the presence of C (not Greek gamma) in third position. »
Jean-Paul Thuillier, 2006
